SEPE
The exhibition “Long Distance Trip” is an outcome of combining the artist’s several interests – painting, reportage photography, and travelling. The result of this is a series of paintings based on photographs taken during his numerous travels over the last decade. From the wild territories of Kirgizstan, Tajikistan, Georgia, Armenia, Mongolia, and Russia, to art residencies in Cambodia and the Philippines.
Photographs form the artist’s archives are, in this case, loose reference points – impressions, sketches of his observations, memories, and emotions from these places and times. They serve only as a pretext, and a formal support, for the exploration of the world of forms, compositions, colors, as well as stories and metaphors.
In this way, the notion of a long-distance trip takes up a multi-dimensional meaning. From actual notes written down in a travel journal, illustrated impressions from visited places, to much broader metaphors about life and painting as a journey.
